Calling all future doulas!

Apply now to be part of our doula dream team…

Do you want to make a positive difference in the lives of parents and babies? Are you interested in birth and passionate about seeing to it that new families are supported? Do you want to do work that helps advance racial equity and offers fair pay? Doula work might be for you!

The Wichita Birth Justice Society is creating a community doula program and is currently recruiting candidates for our doula team. Our program will provide birth doula care to families in Wichita’s urban core to help reduce the unequal burden of early deaths and poor health outcomes experienced by Black birth givers and Black and brown babies. Our doulas help families have healthier, more nurtured birth experiences by providing advocacy, information and support.

What are we looking for?

Preference will be given to diverse candidates who reside in or near zip codes 67202, 67211, 67214, 67216, 67218, and 67219. We are looking for individuals who have strong advocacy skills, high reliability and a passion for health equity. A medical or social work background is helpful, but not required.

Candidates should be available to work a minimum of three births per year with a two year commitment. Pay per birth will be based on a fair market rate.

What training or credentials do I need?

Our team will be trained and certified in birth and postpartum doula care, reproductive health counseling and breastfeeding peer support through Uzazi Village’s comprehensive doula training. Read more about the training and certification here: https://uzazivillage.org/doula-training/

The training will take place on August 7-8, 14-15, 21-22, and 28-29 in Wichita. The cost of training is $1,000 per individual and a number of full and partial scholarships will be offered to outstanding candidates. Opportunities will be provided for candidates to fundraise for any remaining out-of-pocket training costs.

A current CPR certification, proof of professional liability insurance coverage and a background check will be required prerequisites to working with clients.
